Pool History, Swim Programs, & Board Authority

Brief History & Board Authority

Each Board has the authority to set the pool rules, usage, and hours for each season. The Board is also responsible for authorizing the pool maintenance contract (if any), which is currently with Splash Pool Services (see: CC&R 4.1 & 4.3).

The pool rules have evolved over the years. A long time ago, the pool was open and unguarded 24x7. Eventually the key lock was installed and residents had to have a actual key to enter the pool. Now we have a swim lane, waivers, key cards, security cameras and in 2025 the pool's open hours align with when a lifeguard is on duty.

Swim Programs

As the pool rules have matured, so has the usage. Through Splash, the Maple Hill pool offers swim lessons and the opportunity to join a summer swim team in an established league.

  • Swim programs promote increased water safety of the youth participants, solidifying a life saving skill within a cooperative team environment.

  • In addition to safety, swimming is a life-long sport perfect for both supporting a personal growth mindset as well as building a team atmosphere focused on encouragement and positive social interactions.

  • Providing swim programs within walking and biking distance increases the chance of families taking these opportunities.

Swim Team

General Information

  • After the request of the community, the Maple Hill Swim Team, The Makos, was officially formed in 2021 and is part of the Horsetooth Summer Swim League which includes about 2 dozen local, small, summer club teams all hosted at their respective community pools.

  • As a non-profit entity, the parents of swimmers and other Maple Hill residents volunteer time to coordinate the team’s activities. The head coach for the 2025 season was a Maple Hill resident.

Yearly Board Approval

  • Each season, the Board of Directors votes to grant approval to the Swim Team to:

    • (1) hold up to 2 swim meets, and

    • (2) the use of the majority of the pool for up to 2hrs/weekday for 7-8 weeks/season for practice

Team Composition

  • Typically the majority of the team is comprised of Maple Hill residents, but the team is open to non-residents as approved by the Board of Directors in 2021. In 2025, 6 out of the 30 swimmers were non-residents and those 6 participants rode their bikes from surrounding communities that do not have a pool available for a Swim Team.

  • Non-resident participants do not receive a pool key card.

Waivers

  • To participate on the swim team, each swimmer must sign a lawyer-approved waiver through Splash's website as part of the registration process.

Fees

  • As part of the registration process, Splash collects $225/swimmer to pay for insurance, lifeguards, swim meet coordination, etc.

  • The Swim Team also collects $10/swimmer to pay for basic supplies such as starting blocks, ribbons, stop watches, caps, etc. This fee has never been enough to cover regular expenses and the Swim Team has always relied on community donations to keep afloat for the basics of the season. In 2025 they received $450 in sponsorships.

  • Currently the HOA does not charge the Swim Team a fee to use the pool for practice or for swim meets because (1) most of the swimmers are residents, (2) practice is held during non-contract hours*. However, there may be extra usage of bathroom supplies as well as minor wear and tear, especially during swim meets, for which the HOA is not charging the Swim Team.

*The Maple Hill Master Association contracts with Splash Pool Services for pool maintenance, chemicals, and lifeguards. Among other items, the contract outlines and specifies the number of lifeguards per hour per day to meet capacity requirements. In 2025, the pool's open hours align with when a lifeguard is on duty as there is possible Association liability when the pool is in use without a lifeguard present. Each Board has the responsibility and the right to set how and when the pool is used.
